IP Transit is a service in which an Internet Service Provider (ISP) allows traffic to pass through its network to reach the rest of the Internet.

IP Transit uses the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) to provide network access to the entire global Internet system.

In other words, customers using the IP Transit service pay the ISP for the right to access the provider’s extended BGP Internet routing table.
